About Islewise
Islewise is a locally curated travel guide to Sri Lanka. It's a small, deliberately slow project: every place on the site has been picked by hand, written up in plain language, and verified against what's actually worth your time.
The guide currently covers 40 places across the south coast, hill country, cultural triangle, Colombo, and east coast — a mix of beaches and surf spots, historical sites, wildlife parks, viewpoints, hotels, and a handful of cafés and restaurants. It will grow as new places are added, but not quickly, and not just because somewhere is trending.
Who makes it
Islewise is shaped by a single editor's judgment and the recommendations of friends, travellers, and readers who submit suggestions. Every recommendation is read; not every one makes it in. The filter is simple: would I send a close friend there, and can I describe honestly what they'll find?
What makes it different
Most travel guides are broken in ways that matter. TripAdvisor rankings are gamed by hotels paying for reviews. Lonely Planet listings go stale the moment they're printed. Google Maps tells you a restaurant is “4.2 stars” without telling you whether you'll actually like it. And most “Top 10 Sri Lanka” lists just copy each other, so the same handful of places get recommended everywhere.
Islewise is a smaller, slower, more honest alternative. No sponsored listings, no affiliate links, no algorithmic ranking. Just a fixed list, updated by hand, that tells you what a place actually is, what's good about it, and — where it matters — when to visit and what to expect. The trade-off: it will never be comprehensive. The upside: what's here has been chosen on purpose.
What's coming
The guide works already. Over time it will grow — more places, better ways to explore them (search, filters, a map), and a handful of features that help you plan and remember your trip. Nothing is urgent. Things ship when they're ready.
