The temple sits directly on a cliff edge where the land drops straight into the Indian Ocean, with views over Trincomalee's natural harbour.
A Hindu temple to Shiva on Swami Rock, about 130 metres above the sea at the tip of the Trincomalee peninsula. The original was destroyed by Portuguese forces in 1622; the current structures were rebuilt from the 1950s on the same cliff site.
