The twice-daily river bath is one of the few places where you can watch a large group of elephants behaving as a herd at close range.

A government-run facility established in 1975 to care for orphaned and injured wild elephants, on a 25-acre coconut estate inland from Colombo. The herd is walked from the enclosure to the Maha Oya river twice daily for bathing, around 10 am and 2 pm.
