The ruins of Sri Lanka's medieval capital, in use from the 11th to 13th centuries after the abandonment of Anuradhapura. The site spreads across several square kilometres of royal palaces, stupas, Hindu temples, and rock-carved Buddha statues, including the four figures at Gal Vihara.
